Gender Dysphoria Assessment & Therapy

Gender affirming treatment (whether that is social, therapeutic, chemical, or surgical) has been linked to vast improvements in mental health. I offer both gender dysphoria assessments, reports and therapy.

Assessments (for individuals aged 25 and older):

In most countries, a psychological evaluation is necessary before gender affirming medical treatment can be accessed. This process is not one to be anxious about. It is simply a chance for you to tell your story in a safe and supportive atmosphere. During your assessment, I will take notes and ask you some questions about your social, emotional, mental, and physical health. These notes will be used to compile a report that you may share with your endocrinologist or other medical practitioners.

In most cases, two assessment sessions are required. Occasionally three assessment sessions may be necessary before I am willing to compile a report.

Please note: Undergoing this assessment process does not automatically guarantee a diagnosis of gender dysphoria.

Costs: Two 50-minute assessment sessions + written report: €600.

€300 is required (paid in advance) at the time of appointment reservation. The balance of €300 is to be paid before you receive your diagnostic report.

Therapy (for individuals aged 13 and older):

Having a safe therapeutic space where you can unpack your experiences of your gender, sexuality, identity, history, relationships etc. can be profoundly helpful. Informed discussions around the social constructions of gender, how to engage with family members and other social arenas on these topics can be empowering and transformative. My theoretical training includes psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural perspectives. I generally favour Attachment Theory to inform my understanding and ways of being with people. I thus aim to provide a warm, confidential, responsive, and stimulating therapeutic relationship in which clients can examine their experiences of the world and perhaps try out new ways of being.

Therapy (whether in office or virtual) usually consists of one 50-minute session per week and begins with an initial assessment session.

Please be aware that in the process towards feeling better, therapy can at times make you feel worse. The insights and changes brought about during therapy might impact your close relationships.

I remain mindful of the fact that a successful therapy requires significant investment in terms of time, energy, and money. While there are seldom “quick fixes”, I work hard alongside my clients to ensure that they feel that these investments are worthwhile.

Investments/Rates:

• Sessions are 50-minutes in duration and are charged at a rate of €150.

• Failure to attend a scheduled appointment and/or provide at least 48 hours’ notice across week days to reschedule will result in the session deposit being forfeited/a full session fee being charged.

• I issue health insurance/tax receipts so that you can be reimbursed by your insurance provider.
